Duplex
This project was to design a duplex by deriving forms found in Bridget Riley's painting Conversation. The floor plans of the building follow the grid of sheared parallelograms as seen in the painting, while the form of the two units also mirror each other in plan. A progression of increases along the height of the building helps define the placement of clerestory windows while reinforcing the language of the painting. One unit is designed for a family with two children, and the other unit is for a couple living with an older relative. The duplex features shared outdoor space at the ground floor and private balconies to foster a greater connection with the environment.
